It is so powerful to see Bugs Bunny standing up to organized crime. These men are not beyond hope but there must be consequences for breaking the law. There must.

(Looney Tunes S19 E3:)
(Bugs Bunny)Our favorite Wascally Wabbit finds himself being held captive by a miniature gangster bank robber, and his big dumb goon.
"SHUT UP! ... rabbit!"
(Quick Hits) ... Spoilers:
- I do remember watching this episode as a kid since the bad guy Rocky's hat is just as tall as he is ... I wonder what he has under there
- Of course Bugs has a safety deposit box full of carrots
- They crack the joke that he thinks he is safe in the city away from the hunters, as he nearly avoids being hit by cars and then gets held up moments later by the gangsters
- It cracked me up that you…

The gag of Bugs stuffing the guys in the oven and then pretending to be the cops only for the real cops to show up and go through the whole motion again gets me every time.

This has the same plot twist as the Paul Walker movie Running Scared, only it makes a lot more sense here.

My mutuals all seem a little cool on this one, but I dunno, it's one of my very favorite Friz Freleng Bugs shorts. With one caveat: the big boxy dumb yegg Mugsy is the first unmistakable example of what would become an important part of Freleng's aesthetic in the mid-'50s, his fixation on grotesque frog-like human facial features, and I greatly dislike it. Mugsy is by no means the worst of it, but it's the first time it shows up, and I feel a chill in my heart. It only occurs to me now for the first time, watching these all in chronological order, that I wonder if this is Freleng's attempt to move closer to Chuck Jones's style of…

Foster/Freleng's finest seven minutes...ridiculously tight, refining ideas from more than a decade of gangster riffs into one of the all-out funniest Tunes...a childhood favorite and apparently little baby cecil had great taste!
